BBL (Balgzand Bacton Line) is a 230km pipeline bringing compressed natural gas from Balgzand in the Netherlands to Bacton in Norfolk. With UK continental shelf gas production now in steady decline, the pipeline will play a critical part in the maintenance of this country's energy supply, bringing gas from mainland Europe and, potentially, from Russia.
The construction of the pipeline and the interconnector at Bacton by the main contractors, AMEC, has been a major civil engineering project, and Bluelimit is proud to have played its part.
The 18-month contract for the testing of all new pipework associated with processing the gas from the second interconnector has involved virtually the entire range of our NDT services -- radiography, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic testing and dye penetrant inspection, as well as heat treatment.
It has been a massive project with very tight deadlines and stringent regulatory requirements -- and we are happy to report that we have played our part in assisting the BBL consortiun to complete the project successfully.
